These are the rants and raves of my friends:

Dunce Hats for all

Ever notice when the government doesn't know how to fix a problem, they create a diversion and whenever something goes wrong, it's always the other parties fault.. I often wonder why we don't just elect a group of kindergarteners to represent us, and a School Teacher to be President, at least then, the country would stand a chance. Yes, we can let them keep nap time.  D. Bankes

I Agree

In this society, is it any wonder that Terrorist factions, such as Al Qaida, can turn our own people against us? A society that embraces criminals, as long as your name is Lohan, for example, or you were once the Quarterback of a pro Football team, while shunning the poor and nameless for even the smallest of indiscretions.

Yes, even repeat offenders are welcomed back into the fold, if they are from a rich family, or have held a six-figure income job. It's as if society somehow thinks that Prison rehabilitates the rich and famous, but is simply a summer home for the rest of us.

While background checks are informative, a criminal history, should not be grounds for refusing to hire someone, unless that history is long and repetitive or the Criminal history could have a direct impact on the job the are being hired for.

Rejecting a person for a job that they are qualified to do, simply because they have a conviction increases the burden on society. Furthermore, this is a punitive measure above and beyond their sentence, which bodes along the lines of double jeopardy, being punished twice for the same crime. How many inmates are informed that when they are convicted or take a plea, that they will be exposed to potential employers as an ex-con, and that these potential employers have the right to reject their application solely on this basis?

Is it right to kick a person while they’re down? Is it smart? Society creates hardened criminals, and then cries about having to deal with them. Isn’t it our job to love our neighbor as our self?

“Employee background checks, as we know them in the United States, are usually not available in other countries. Most countries do not offer the same level of accessibility to court records as the US. Often criminal conviction information is available only to government officials and the individual themselves. Each country has its own regulation, procedures and customs making each a distinctive situation.” Quoted from E-zine Articles By Steve Valentino.

What this means is a person can commit many crimes in some countries, and then continue to work in that country as a viable member of it’s society. They can also come to the U.S., without having to worry about that Criminal History inhibiting their ability to obtain a job here. Again, I press the call of Double Jeopardy.  You can’t ask a person to live as a third class citizen and expect anything less than criminal behavior. They’ve got to eat. Their kids need a home, food and clothes. They have to provide, just like the rest of society, so what choice do they have, if not a real job?-D. Bankes.

Government Discrimination

If the Government wasn’t in the business of tiering, there wouldn't be any discrimination.  Things such as background checks, DOC Websites, and the notably screwed up Terrorist Watch List are just some of the ways the Government promotes discrimination. What's really upsetting is that a majority of the people in the Government should be on at least one of these lists, if not several. -Anonymous

 Too big for your Government?

At the rate the Population is growing, State Governments are often inadequately equipped to effectively handle the business of the entire state. I think the Government of the larger states should be forced to divide the state  into separate governments and two separate states. For example, New Jersey, The Northern half of the state is thriving and doing well, while the southern half is, with the exception of a few key areas, just scraping by. In separating the state into North Jersey and South Jersey, it would allow South Jersey to have a more focused and driven government.-Dave Bankes, Author Extraordinaire
